Adenike Oluboyo, daughter of Lasisi Olugbenga Oluboyo, former deputy governor of Ondo state, was on Sunday found dead at the Akure residence of one Adeyemi Alao identified as her boyfriend.
Oluboyo was a final year student of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko in Ondo.
According to NAN, Femi Joseph, police public relations officer (PPRO) in the state, confirmed the incident and described it as unfortunate.
“It is not a rumour but it is a fact that the young lady was found dead this morning and it is saddening and very unfortunate,” Joseph was quoted to have said.
“We are on it and trying to get some facts but the commissioner of police will brief the press about the details in another 48 hours,” Joseph said.
Prince Lasisi Olugbenga Oluboyo is the immediate past Deputy Governor of Ondo state. A former commissioner of Agriculture in the state and he replaced Alli Olanusi, who was impeached as a result of gross misconduct and mismanagement of fund.
Prince Oluboyo started his working career as an account clerk at Jimmy Enterprises, from where he moved to Orimobi Motors. He later got employed at the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund, where he served in various capacities before retiring.
Omo-oba, as he is popularly called by friends, won many awards, including the Long and Meritorious Service Award (1998), Best Staff of the Year Award, which he won for two consecutively years (1999-2000).
On retirement he immediately went into politics. He is a pioneer member of the Turaki Atiku Movement (TAM), which was led by the late Chief Kayode Iwakun.
He was a member of the Alliance for Democracy (AD) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He was also the state organising secretary of the Advance Congress of Democrats (ACD). He was also a pioneer member of the Labour Party in Ondo State.
Aside from career and politics, the deputy governor was a footballer in his school days. He was a member of his school team. He was also a unionist. He is a former branch chairman, Nigeria Union of Banks, Insurance and Finance Employees (NUBIFE), Ondo State.
Prince Oluboyo was the secretary-general, Organisation of Muslim Unity of Nigeria, Ondo State branch, vice president, Aminty Club of Nigeria, secretary, Aminty Club, Akure, member, Eminent Club, Ikare Akoko.
In 2011, he was appointed as commissioner for natural resources in Ondo State and moved to the Ministry of Agriculture where he served till he became deputy governor. He is married with children.
